A Simple Favour ★★ ½ ☆☆ | Book Review

Image
Summary Emily asks for one favour from her friend, Stephanie... Can she pick up her son Nicky from school... and she does, but Emily doesn't come to pick him up. As the search for her continues it becomes evident to Stephanie that her friend wasn't all she appeared to be. Review I'm going to make a sincere effort to save movie comparisons for later and just focus on the book for now. I will say that the reason I got the book was because I saw the film and was intrigued to read the source material. I also listened to this with Whispersync. The story is told from four perspectives in the book: Stephanie, Stephanie's blog, Emily and Sean. The first half being Stephanie, before switching to Emily and finishing with a mix of all of them. I enjoyed the mix of first person narratives and it worked particularly well with the audio version. As a whole the book was very simple, and by that I mean it was very easy to listen to. Lots of people are comparing the story ...

Dome Day

The day is finally here... I finished listening to... 39 and a bit hours... It took dedication and some rewinding to relisten to little bits again. This I feel is going to turn into a bit of a book-tv show crossover review, so my apologies in advance. Firstly, having seen the show I was prepared for it to not be like the book. To change a book into a film they butcher things but the general outline is still the same. To turn a book into a show of several seasons is going to need a lot of reworking. When I went online to find some images and other people's thoughts I came across a letter that Stephen King wrote  and I can see where he's coming from. Unfortunately if you watched it then read it, the whole thing is VERY confusing at first. So, I erased the whole TV show from my mind and started listening to Under The Dome in my commute time. The reader on the audio was not in my opinion the best choice, he had a tendency to blur his character voices into the non-dialog...

Reading Up A Storm

I was going through my iPad trying to find something to read and realised I had 24 partly read books on there. And that's just the eBooks, I dread to think how many physical books would fit that category. I've listened to a couple of Harry Potter and Artemis Fowl audio books, I'm not going in to the debate on whether it's technically reading... as long as you're enjoying writing then that's all that matters. If I'd read the actual books I wouldn't have managed to read that many. I can listen to them on the way to and from work, and luckily I can listen to them at work as well. Since I moved to Bristol I've managed to listen to all of the Harry Potter books, I've got one more Artemis Fowl to go. I was highly confused by Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy... I think that one really needs to be read, it'll certainly mess your head up a lot less. I listened to Jurassic Park, unfortunately an abridged addition which was very disappoint...

Are You Sitting Comfortably?

Then I'll begin. Once upon a time there was a woman who loved to read. She had books everywhere, as far as the eye could see, until one sad day when she moved. All her beautiful books were packed into brown boxes and sealed up to be transported across the country. The woman moved to a small flat with nowhere to put up shelves so her books stayed in their brown boxes and were hidden under her bed until the magical day she could bring them out. The End. Unfortunately for me that's no fairy tale. Those boxes are under my bed and the only books I have out are cook books and the few I've brought since moving in. I just haven't been in the mood to read, lucky I supposed as they're stuck under my bed. Instead of the usual 10 minute round trip commute I now commute for over an hour every day. I don't like reading a book on the bus, it gets so packed that on the trip home I usually stand which means it isn't easy to read. So I made the switch to audio books. ...
