MCU've Got To Be Kidding Me?!

Image
It started out as a fun little idea... " I fancy having a Marvel marathon! " I had already done a bit of Spider-Man, and I realised I'd watched a lot of X-Men recently too. So that left me with the "proper" Marvel, and of course by that I mean the Marvel movies that scream Marvel when they're brought out in the cinema. Of course this just leaves you with one last decision... how do you watch them? By superhero series... by phase... or in chronological order? Now, I like order. My DVDs are sensibly ordered alphabetically by title. I like a list... nay... I LOVE a list. So why am I brought to my knees, a gibbering wreck, every time I start to think about the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Personally I'm an advocate for chronological and, because sometimes you just need to see a lot of Tom Hiddleston, watching a superhero set in order. I found a few different places online to see what the consensus is on watching order... and guess what? There isn...

Does Whatever A Previous Spider-man Can

Image
Spider-man, Spider-man, does whatever a spider can... He has speed, strength, and agility. He can climb and cling to buildings and planes. His Spidey sense tingles at danger. He's a bit of a genius and creates new tech to help him fight crime... I'm not sure that spiders do that last bit. (Create tech, or fight crime.)  It is a real shame that he can't change colour to hide in his environment though, or call an army of spiders... although if he could do that last bit I probably wouldn't watch the movies, Chamber of Secrets was tricky enough. You know me and my Marvel fetish, so of course Homecoming was on my list. This one felt like it needed to be "go big or go home", so I fished out some previous Spidey recordings to get myself into the mood. I don't think I've seen Spider-man since it came out, Amazing Spider-man, maybe only a year or two ago. Needless to say I was feeling a little rusty on the subject. --- Spider-man , starring Tobey Mag...

Marvel-ous Day Out?

Image
Nerds Assemble! Last weekend I got my nerd on. I was lucky enough to get a friend's plus one to go and see Marvel Universe Live at the O2 in London. Obviously, living in Bristol means that going to London is a bit of a trek, but everyone loves a road trip! My friend kindly offered to drive us up to Hayes and then we trained and tubed it into town. So our adventure was under way with some sunshine and some gossip. Putting the world to rights. Travelling in London I dislike trains with a passion. If I could get the bus everywhere easily then I would. But as long as someone is there to point me in the right direction then it's all good... unless of course you happen to go into London on a day when there are works on. While it's still possible to get around, it generally helps to have that information before you get half way through your journey. So a morning of bad or non-existent announcements and some unhelpful staff really wasn't a fun way to start the d...

Movies To See In 2017

Image
It's about that time again... to sift through the hundreds of movies coming out in 2017 and start planning how I'm going to afford all the popcorn that will be required! I don't know how I'm feeling about all the remakes I've seen... especially Sister Act, I'm really hoping that that one is a horrible horrible joke. I would assume that there are a lot of films that are due to come out that I won't have seen online, as with my 2016 list. But let's get started! January 20th: Split - James McAvoy looking particularly scary. M. Night Shyamalan, could go either way. 20th: Table 19 - Wedding comedy with Anna Kendrick, I enjoy both of those things! 20th: xXx Return of Xander Cage - Wait... isn't he dead? February 10th: The Lego Batman Movie - Another one that got an automatic slot on the list. Possibly the only time this year I won't be disappointed by a DC character. 17th: The Dark Tower - I'm nervous... Stephen King ...

Books To Look Out For In May

Image
Cutting it a bit fine for May new titles... way too many for me to keep up to date with! Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. by Marc Guggenheim & Mike Norton 9781846537226 Any list I make wouldn't be complete without a graphic novel on it. This month I've picked this Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. one, mainly because every girl wants Agent Coulson in her life! This one features Tony Stark joining the team for a top secret mission. The Autobiography Of James T Kirk by David A Goodman 9781783297481 You all know I'm a Star Trek nut so of course this was going to get into the listing... but I have to object to the first line of this one's description. "The Autobiography of James T. Kirk chronicles the greatest Starfleet captain's life"... Erm no, Jean-Luc has that title. But I'm not going to turn my nose up at this one because of that inaccuracy! Breaker by Kat Ellis 9780762459087 After the execution of the serial killer, Bonebreaker, his son Kyle has a...

So You've Seen Deadpool...

Image
... and the superhero movie will never be the same again. Before seeing the movie I had never come across Deadpool. He was sneakily hiding behind the other characters flipping bunny ears and running away giggling. We of course saw Wade Wilson in the Wolverine origin film but in a more serious (yet still with a tinge of humour) role. He was no indication of what to expect. Created by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza, Wade Winston Wilson AKA Deadpool started life as a supervillain before the unstable mercenary became firmly set as everyone's favourite anti-hero. Name: Wade Winston Wilson [possibly?]. AKA: Deadpool, Merc with a Mouth. Alliances: Pretty much anyone. Abilities: Healing, master of martial arts, swordsmanship and marksmanship, extended lifespan, a way with words, destroyer of the fourth wall, advanced distraction techniques. There was the distinct worry that the film would be awful. An entertaining trailer has...

Top Films To See In 2016

Image
In my last post I said I was going to attempt to see half of my must see movies of the year, so it makes sense to share them with you. I'm sure you'll be screaming at me for missing something out... but that's the beauty of making your own list, on your own blog... it doesn't have to appeal to everyone! So here are my 31 picks for the year, some must see ones and some I feel like I need to see even though I'm not convinced they'll be that good. January 22nd - 5th Wave - Four alien attacks leave the world decimated, can Cassie save her younger brother? Starring Chloe Grace Moretz and Liev Schreiber. February 5th - Dad's Army - Star studded cast including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Bill Nighy and Michael Gambon [among many others] bring the small screen TV series to the big screen. This is one that I want to see because there are so many good actors in it. Trailer looks good, but you never can tell... it could be an abomination. 10th - Dea...
