Movies of 2016 - Recapped!
So one of my non-New Year's resolutions was to see at least half of my to watch films of 2016. Out of 31 on the list I have already seen 19, plus some that appeared out of nowhere after I did the original. I dread to think how much that cost me in tickets, popcorn and slushies. Thankfully the last few months have been aided by my Cineworld Unlimited card, so that helped a bit.
Never got round to this. I think partly because I wanted to read the book first, and partly because in the end I really didn't enjoy the trailers.
This one was a good laugh, surprisingly. The casting was good, and even though it was ridiculous, it wasn't any more ridiculous than the show.
Well you know I loved this one... take a look at my waffle on my previous post. Get my some chimichangas and put the DVD on!
I was always going to see this, it was high on the must see list... read my post about what I thought. Is it going to win any awards? Maybe not, but it's not a bad watch.
I think I said that this one was a bit of an iffy choice in the first place, and at this point I can't even remember why I put it on the list.
Another booky one, but I didn't read this one first. It was indeed peculiar, but I enjoyed this one a lot. I haven't looked into whether they are doing the other ones in the series, but I can hope.
Oh god I wish I hadn't seen it. I think I've said before that Stephen King things I've seen feel like they've got to a point and discovered that they needed to end... and that's when... BOOM... aliens! This film felt like it was going quite well until the end... surprise surprise.
I quite enjoyed Olympus Has Fallen, so this one was another that was going to be seen regardless. I can't lie, there's less plot, more action. So if you like watching things explode and people get shot, well, you're on to a winner.
DC, please stop. Just. Stop. I'm so fed up of being disappointed. This felt more like an introduction to other characters, rather than a film for Batman and Superman.
I love animated films, and this was a really good one. Funny, and good for all ages. I'd recommend this to anyone as a good watch.
Not really sure why I didn't see this one, I think it's probably because I have fond memories of the animated version.
Another one that I'm not 100% why it ended up on the list.
I don't know how I felt about this one. I think I enjoyed it, but there were a lot of characters to keep track of. And really... stop changing Spiderman!
I liked this one, but it's bugging me that I don't know enough of the back stories to work out what they've messed up or tweaked. I did come across the fact that Mystique is Nightcrawler's mother... which made sense, but confused me to no end.
I honestly don't think I could cope with that much weird in one films again.
I saw this one because of Melissa McCarthy being in it. Again, not really a winner, but good entertainment.
Lots of people hated this, and I really don't understand why. It's an interesting follow on from the previous one, with some of the same characters and some nice additions.
Meh, I wanted to like this one as it was from Illumination Entertainment, but I really couldn't. I didn't find any redeeming feature. I honestly felt like I enjoyed the trailer more than the film.
This is the sort of film I'd like but I didn't get around to it.
I don't understand how I didn't go and see this... I mean, he was so hot on the movie poster.
I've never really enjoyed the BGF, I thought I'd give the new one a try, but alas, this one passed me by too.
O. M. G. It was cheesy and amazing. I loved this one, The cameos were fun, and I thought that the four of them worked great together. I'm a stickler for remakes, and I can understand why some people get a bit tetchy about them... but honestly, this one wasn't as bad a they'd have had you think.
You know me and Star Trek. Of course I was going to enjoy this one. 2016 has been a cruel year though, and the death of Anton Yelchin is going to be a loss to the Star Trek world.
This one slipped through the net, don't even remember seeing it on at the cinema.
DC... *sigh*. What to say about this. I enjoyed it, but seriously, how can't they make a good film? The trailers were very misleading, and after watching the film I got the same vibe about introducing characters as I did from Batman V Superman. Honestly I watched the whole thing and came out of the screen with the impression it was leading to a Joker film.
I just couldn't ruin the childhood memories from this one.
Oooooh action... but why didn't Chris Pratt ever have his shirt off? Was it a game changer? No. But it was enjoyable.
Well this one is nowhere to be seen.
Oooooooo... loved it! Want a magic cape. Would have seen it a dozen more times if I could have.
Meh... seriously... meh. I don't know how they are going to make five films. I'm not going to be popular for this opinion... but oh my god, Eddie Redmayne was so annoying.
5th Wave

Fantastic Beasts

Assassins Creed
Pushed to January. Bit traumatised that people are saying things like "this film proves that video game movies are still crap".
And the also rans...
Jason Bourne - I know, me watching a Bourne film... it was poo, wouldn't want to disappoint you by saying anything else.
Now You See Me 2 - Enjoyed the first one, this wasn't too bad.
Angry Birds - This was very good, and I honestly thought I was going to hate it.
Bad Moms - LOVED it. Buying it on Boxing Day.
How To Be Single - This was fine, and amusing, but I don't think I'd watch it again.
Special Correspondent - Quite enjoyed this one, which is a surprise as I don't really like Ricky Gervais
Office Christmas Party - A good laugh, don't think I'm going to be able to take a 3D printer seriously again.
Inferno - Fell asleep during this one, I'm almost certain on that fact. I'm not sure if that's a reflection on the quality of the film or not.
Star Wars Rogue One - This was brilliant... and this is coming from someone who doesn't like Star Wars that much. Much more like the originals, and I would go and see it again.
Trolls - OMG. Best films ever. Singing, dancing and glitter... what more could you want out of a film?!?!
I don't think I did too badly for films this year. I obviously binge watched a lot of TV series, and watched Leverage and Doctor Who for about the fiftieth time. I have obviously been looking at what to watch in 2017, I would imagine that the list is going to be much like this year, a lot of things will get shunted for being an abomination to film, and my own personal history, and I'll probably find a lot more things that weren't listed.
It's doubtful that I'll get any other cinema trips in before the New Year, although you never know! Fingers crossed for some amazing films next year... I'm currently thinking that Lego Batman is going to be the peak.
