Movies Of 2018 - April Recapped!

Image
This month I was struggling to work out how I'd see anywhere near as many new films as I did last month. I'm still not sure it's going to live up to they hype of March, even with the amount of pre-booked tickets I have. I'm going to start this one with a re-evaluation of the scoring system as I've been asked how I decide on what they are. ☆ - So far nothing has suffered so much that it has got no stars... I'm not even sure what a film would have to do to sink this low. ★ - One stars are saved for those films that out of all possible categories (acting, scenery, plot, effects, etc) only actually ended up ticking one (maybe two) of the boxes. ★★ - Two stars go to those films that might not have struck a cord with me but I can appreciate what it was, how it was done, and how it would appeal to other viewers. ★★★ - Sitting right in the middle, the three star films are ones I liked, but would have liked better had they had something tweaked. If they were on...

Movies Of 2018 - February Recapped!

Image
February was definitely an up and down month film-wise. But no spoilers, you only have to scroll a little bit to find out what I thought of the offering. I suffered a lot from a lack of new films to see, and also encountered my first film I couldn't see at my Cineworld... I'm not entirely convinced I would have enjoyed Phantom Thread, but it would have been nice to get the chance to be disappointed/entertained by it. Anyway... to the movies! --- Den Of Thieves ★★★☆☆ Nick O'Brien is the hard-drinking leader of the Regulators, an elite unit of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Ray Merrimen is the recently paroled leader of the Outlaws, a gang of ex-military men who use their expertise and tactical skills to evade the law. O'Brien, Merrimen and their crews soon find themselves on a direct collision course as the criminals hatch an elaborate plan for a seemingly impossible heist -- the city's Federal Reserve Bank. Some g...

Movies Of 2018 - January Recapped!

Image
After lots of people saying that they saw over 100 films last year on their Unlimited Card I've felt like I should try and up my game... so here goes my jam-packed January. --- Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri - Unlimited Screening ★★★★☆ When the police have got nowhere trying to find her daughter's killer, she takes matters into her own hands. Renting out three billboards on a barely used road to town, she plasters her simple question for anyone to see. "How come?" This was a wonderful start to my 2018 cinema going. It's not often that I say I agree with award winners (especially after La La Land) but this one really did deserve it's Golden Globes. The star in this one for me was Woody Harrelson. He's aged like a fine wine. I wasn't a massive fan previously, but after War For The Planet Of The Apes, and now this, I can't wait to see what else is to come from him. Three Billboards in an emotional journey, ...

And The Award Goes To...

Photo by  Peter Lewicki  on  Unsplash I had one of those moments where I thought "I don't care that other people are making their own top 10 listings... I'm going to do one." So here it goes! Movies Of 2017 - December Recapped!

Image
As you can imagine, December is massively seasonal based in Chez Emma. If you haven't watched Die Hard, Home Alone and Muppet's Christmas Carol by December 3rd then you're slacking... and you know I got the Christmas party started right. --- The Man Who Invented Christmas ★★★★★ Two years after the success of Oliver Twist, Charles Dickens is suffering financial hardship from the failure of his last three books. Rejected by his publishers, he sets out to write a new book to restore his finances. Seeing inspiration around London, most notably a rich man's funeral that is largely unattended, he begins writing A Christmas Carol, due in six weeks in order to be published by Christmas. As Charles begins to develop his story, he interacts with the characters he is writing about, most notably Ebenezer Scrooge. Christmas spirit abounds this month, and I was so happy to see it start with this film. I'm fed up of saying "I hadn't heard anything about ...
